Fróðskaparsetur Føroya, the University of the Faroe Islands, is seeking to recruit to a new Academic Position in Mathematics/Statistics in its Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology
The University of the Faroe Islands is the primary higher education and research institution in the Faroe Islands, the nation’s only university and its foremost knowledge centre. The University undertakes research and research-based teaching, providing for synergy between research and teaching to serve the evolving needs and priorities of the Faroes and their wider region.
The University, which plays a vital role in Faroese society, has around 130 academic staff, some 40 staff in support and service positions, and around 1000 students. The University is comprised of five faculties and a central administration. The University is seeking to recruit to a new academic position in mathematics/statistics in its Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology. The Faculty delivers bachelor’s programmes in biology, molecular life science, information technology and engineering, and a master programme in data science.
The Position
The successful applicant will have primary teaching responsibilities and related administrative roles in courses in mathematics and statistics on the programmes. The successful candidate may also contribute to teaching other subjects in her/his subject area and will be expected to contribute to development of possible new courses and/or programmes.
The research of the successful candidate will primarily be in the specific field of expertise and experience.
It is desirable that the applicants can indicate opportunities for collaboration with other science communities in the Faroe Islands and abroad.
The appointment will be as Associate Professor or Assistant Professor, depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. Appointment as Teaching Lecturer (i.e. fulltime teaching position) can be a possibility.
Qualifications
Appointment as Associate Professor or Assistant Professor requires that the applicant holds a relevant PhD degree. Appointment as Teaching Lecturer requires as a minimum a relevant master level degree, but a relevant PhD degree is desirable. Teaching experience at university level will be considered an advantage. It will be an advantage for candidates to have language comprehension in Faroese and in a Scandinavian language, as well as in English.
Any successful applicant who is not a native speaker of Faroese is expected within 3 to 4 years to acquire sufficient knowledge of Faroese to at least understand the language. Please refer to the University of the Faroe Islands’ language policy for further details – available here.

Terms of appointment

Á Náttúruvísindadeildini eru bachelorútbúgvingar í lívfrøði, mýlalívsvísindum, verkfrøði, KT-verkfrøði og ein masterútbúgving í dátuvísindum. Stødd- og hagfrøði eru týðandi partur í útbúgvingunum. Haraftrat er ein diplomútbúgving í web-menning skipað sum parttíðarlestur.
Starvið
Undirvísing og fyrisitingarligar uppgávur í sambandi við hana verður í skeiðum í støddfrøði og hagfrøði, sum eru eru í útbúgvingunum. Undirvísing kann eisini koma upp á tal í øðrum evnum, sum umsøkjarin hevur førleika innan fyri. Væntað verður, at umsøkjarin kann luttaka í menning av møguligum nýggjum skeiðum og/ella útbúgvingartilboðum.
Granskingin í starvinum verður í stóran mun tongd at serøki umsøkjarans. Tað er ynskiligt, at umsøkjarin kann vísa á møguleikar fyri samstarvi við onnur vísindaumhvørvi í Føroyum og uttanlands.
Starvssetanin verður sum lektari ella adjunktur sambært førleika og royndum umsøkjarans. Setan sum námslektari (fulltíðar undirvísingarstarv) kann eisini koma upp á tal.
Førleikar
Setan sum adjunktur ella lektari er treytað av, at umsøkjari hevur viðkomandi ph.d. útbúgving. Við setan sum námslektari skal umsøkjari í minsta lagi hava viðkomandi útbúgving á master stigi, men tó er ynskiligt, at umsøkjari eisini hevur ph.d. útbúgving. Tað er ein fyrimunur, um umsøkjari hevur undirvísingarroyndir á universitetsstigi.
Tað er eisini ein fyrimunur fyri umsøkjarar at duga føroyskt og hava málførleika í einum skandinaviskum máli og í enskum máli. Tað verður roknað við, at umsøkjarar, sum hava annað móðurmál enn føroyskt og fáa starv á Setrinum, innan 3 til 4 ár ogna sær so mikið góðan kunnleika til føroyskt, at tey í minsta lagi skilja føroyskt. Víst verður í hesum sambandi til málpolitikkin hjá Setrinum, sum sæst her.
Umsóknin
Við umsóknini skulu leggjast avrit av próvskjølum (ikki bert forsíður), CV, yvirlit yvir vísindaligar útgávur, lýsing av royndum og áhugamálum í gransking og undirvísing. Í mesta lagi 5 tær bestu útgávurnar kunnu leggjast við umsóknini.
Tú søkir starvið við at fylla hetta oyðiblaðið út og hefta viðkomandi skjølini við.

Starvið verður sett í samsvari við Reglugerð fyri størv á Fróðskaparsetri Føroya, ið sæst her. Løn og starvstreytir eru sambært sáttmála millum Fíggjarmálaráðið og Akademikarafelag Føroya.

Um Fróðskaparsetrið
Fróðskaparsetur Føroya er Føroya týdningarmesti hægri útbúgvingar- og granskingarstovnur. Virksemið á Fróðskaparsetrinum er gransking og granskingargrundað undirvísing, har samvirkan millum hesi bæði hevur til endamáls at tæna skiftandi tørvum og raðfestingum í føroyska samfelagnum og umhvørvinum um okkara leiðir.
Á Fróðskaparsetrinum eru umleið 130 undirvísarar og granskarar, eini 40 starvsfólk í fyrisitingini og okkurt um 1000 lesandi. Fróðskaparsetrið fevnir um fimm deildir og eina miðfyrisiting. Í øllum okkara virki er tað okkara skylda at veita javnbjóðis møguleikar, virka fyri inklusión og at stimbra trivnaðin hjá okkara lesandi og starvsfólki í einum umhvørvi, har øll kunnu mennast.
Starvsøkið:
Á Søgu- og samfelagsdeildini er eitt starv sum adjunktur/lektari í stjórnmálafrøði leyst at søkja. Vit sóknast eftir einum vísindastarvsfólki at granska, undirvísa og menna skeið í stjórnmálafrøði. Av tí at fleiri útbúgvingar á Søgu- og samfelagsdeildini eru tvørfakliga skipaðar, kann eisini roknast við, at tann setti/a kemur at undirvísa lesandi á øðrum útbúgvingum á deildini enn stjórnmálafrøði.
Førleikakrøv:
Fyri at verða sett/ur í starv sum adjunktur/lektari er ph.d.-útbúgving ella samsvarandi granskingarførleiki neyðugur.
Góður málkunnleiki krevst í skandinaviskum og enskum, umframt at tað er fyrimunur at hava innlit í føroyskan politikk og føroysk samfelagsviðurskifti ella vísa áhuga fyri at seta seg inn í hesi viðurskifti. Tað verður roknað við, at umsøkjarar, sum hava annað móðurmál enn føroyskt og fáa starv á Setrinum, innan 3 til 4 ár ogna sær so mikið góðan kunnleika til føroyskt, at tey í minsta lagi skilja føroyskt. Víst verður í hesum sambandi til málpolitikkin hjá Setrinum, sum sæst her.
Dentur verður lagdur á, at umsøkjarar hava góðar granskingar- og undirvísingarførleikar, góð samstarvsevni og eru fúsir at arbeiða til frama fyri deildina í breiðari merking. Á deildini arbeiða umleið 30 fólk við ymiskum førleikum og innan ymisk fakøki, og her er eitt gott og gevandi akademiskt umhvørvi við kjaki og samstarvi tvørtur um fakmørk. Vit rokna við, at tann setti/a sær virði í at samstarva tvørtur um fakmørk á deildini.
Setanargongd:
Starvið verður sett í samsvari við Reglugerð fyri størv á Fróðskaparsetri Føroya, ið sæst her. Løn og starvstreytir eru sambært sáttmála millum Føroya landsstýri og AKF.
Umsókn:
Við umsóknini skulu leggjast avrit av próvskjølum, yvirlit yvir útbúgvingargongd, yvirlit yvir vísindalig avrik og arbeiðsroyndir. Í mesta lagi fimm vísindaligar útgávur/greinar kunnu leggjast við umsóknini. Møguligar undirvísingarroyndir skulu skjalprógvast við yvirlitum yvir framda undirvísing saman við ummæli og eftirmetingum, um tílík eru til taks. Umsóknin skal skrivast á enskum.

Role and Responsibilities:
A position as Associate Professor or Assistant Professor in Political Science is open at the Faculty of History and Social Sciences. We are looking for a new member of faculty to do research, teach and develop courses in political science. As several of the degree programmes at the Faculty of History and Social Sciences are interdisciplinary in nature, the successful applicant should also expect to be teaching students enrolled in degree programmes other than political science at the faculty.
Qualifications and Competences:
To be employed as associate professor or assistant professor, applicants must have a PhD degree or equivalent research competence.
Excellent language skills are required in Scandinavian languages and English. Insight into Faroese politics and Faroese society or demonstrating an interest in learning about these will be considered an advantage. Any successful applicant who is not a native speaker of Faroese is expected within 3 to 4 years to acquire sufficient knowledge of Faroese to at least understand the language. It is important that applicants are experienced researchers with good teaching skills and are team players who are eager to contribute to the overall progress and success of our faculty. There are currently approximately 30 people working at the faculty with diverse skills and in various disciplines in a thriving and inspiring academic environment with discussions and collaboration across disciplines.
